Vietnam’s FPT Pledges $100 Million for Quantum AI Research

FPT Corporation’s Bold Move into Quantum AI and Cybersecurity

Vietnam-based technology giant FPT Corporation has recently unveiled an ambitious plan to invest $100 million into its Quantum AI and Cyber Security Research Institute (QACI). This decision marks a pivotal step in FPT’s strategy to bolster its technological capabilities and enhance the nation’s long-term sovereignty in the tech sector.

Establishing a Strategic Technology Steering Committee

In a statement released on Tuesday, FPT announced the formation of its Strategic Technology Steering Committee. This committee is composed of five specialized units: QACI, FPT UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), FPT Railway Mobility Technology (FMT), FPT Cyber Security, and Digital Conglomerate 5.0 (DC5). Each unit is focused on mastering their respective technologies, while the overall committee aims to align the firm’s strategic directions toward achieving technological self-sufficiency for Vietnam.

    Leadership and Vision

The committee will be chaired by Dr. Truong Gia Binh, the founder and chairman of FPT. Nguyen Van Khoa, the Chief Executive Officer, will serve as the Standing Vice Chair. This leadership dynamic showcases a blend of visionary leadership and industry expertise, as the committee’s primary goal will be to implement strategic technology initiatives across FPT.

Dr. Binh emphasized the current technological revolution, noting, “The world is entering a profound shift in technological power… In this transformation, people are the most valuable resource and sustainable competitive advantage.” This perspective underscores FPT’s commitment to harnessing local talent to tackle national challenges and drive technological innovation.

    Investing in Core Technology Domains

FPT’s strategic framework focuses on five key technology areas. For Railway Mobility Technology, Pham Minh Tuan, CEO of FPT Software, has been appointed to spearhead initiatives that build upon FPT’s global track record in areas such as automotive design, semiconductors, and IoT. The plan integrates substantial experience from critical sectors like aviation and energy, thus promoting safety and efficiency.

In the realm of Quantum Technology and AI, the establishment of the QACI will be pivotal. Under the leadership of Professor Ho Tu Bao and Associate Professor Ngo Xuan Bach, the institute will focus on research, solution development, and advanced training. This institute is noteworthy as it is one of the first quantum research centers initiated by a Vietnamese enterprise, enabling local talent to explore cutting-edge technology in a globally competitive environment.

    Advancements in UAV Technology

As part of its initiative in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, which is expected to reach a $10 billion market by 2035, FPT has appointed Vu Anh Tu, the Chief Technology Officer, as the director of FPT UAV. The company’s efforts to develop Vietnam’s low-altitude economy include the establishment of the Low-Altitude Economy Alliance, demonstrating a proactive approach to fostering collaboration and innovation in the UAV space, particularly with international partners like Japan’s UAS Industry Development Association.

    Enhancing Data Strategies and Cybersecurity

FPT’s data strategy will also see advancements through FPT DC5, led by Pham Duy Phuc, focused on building a robust data platform that enhances customer experience on a national level. Concurrently, FPT Cyber Security is stepping up its capabilities under the leadership of Pham Tung Duong, focusing on research investments and ecosystem development to create a secure and sustainable digital environment.

Vietnam recognizes the essential role of science, technology, and innovation as critical drivers of its economic strategy, aiming to shift toward an upper-middle-income economy by 2030 and a high-income developed nation by 2045. The emphasis on 11 strategic technology domains underscores the importance of self-reliance in technology as fundamental for national growth and security.

FPT’s Commitment to National Technological Advancement

FPT Corporation has a long history of leading the charge in emerging technologies and digital infrastructure. The firm expresses unwavering commitment to collaborating with the government to master strategic technologies, thereby enhancing Vietnam’s autonomy and contributing to the nation’s sustainable development trajectory.

As FPT embarks on this journey to revolutionize technology in Vietnam, the investment in core domains like quantum computing, AI, cybersecurity, and UAVs signals not just a business strategy but a concerted effort to elevate the country’s standing in the global technology landscape.
