Mitsui E&S Secures Order from Vietnam for 22 Shipping Container Cranes

    August 4, 2025

Mitsui E&S has recently made waves in the maritime industry by securing a significant order from Petro Vietnam Phuoc An Port Investment & Operation Joint Stock Company (PAP). This order, which includes 11 ship-to-shore gantry cranes and 11 electric rubber-tired gantry cranes, marks a notable milestone as the largest crane procurement in Vietnam for both companies to date.

As international trade continues to burgeon in southern Vietnam, PAP’s initiative to develop advanced port facilities is crucial. In partnership with Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP), Vietnam’s largest terminal operator, the investment aims to bolster the region’s logistical connectivity. This collaboration embodies a strategic advance towards meeting the soaring demand for trade in the southern region of Vietnam.

Phuoc An Port, still under development by PAP, is poised to become a pivotal logistics hub in Vietnam. Expected to welcome the first container ship from Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) in February 2025, it is being positioned as the first and largest container terminal in Dong Nai Province. This is a significant step not only for PAP but also for the growing maritime network in Vietnam.

Notably, the relationship between Mitsui E&S and PAP has been flourishing. With 13 container cranes already operational at Phuoc An Port, this latest order elevates the total number of Mitsui cranes ordered by PAP to 56 units. This includes prior orders placed in July 2024, which consisted of five Mitsui-Paceco Portainers and 16 Mitsui-Paceco Transtainers.

The delivery of over 170 container cranes by Mitsui E&S to Vietnam over the past decade highlights the company’s dominance in the Vietnamese market. Their substantial market share has established them as a preferred supplier for port equipment in the country. This success story illustrates both the company’s engineering expertise and its commitment to supporting Vietnam’s burgeoning maritime industry.
