Vietnam’s Long An Port Achieves Global Recognition in People Development
Representing a significant milestone for Vietnam’s maritime sector, Long An International Port, located in Tay Ninh Province in southern Vietnam, has made history by being the first Vietnamese enterprise to be honored with the People Development Award at the 2025 International Bulk Journal Awards held in Liverpool, England. This honor not only celebrates Long An Port’s commitment to human resource development but also highlights Vietnam’s growing influence on the global logistics stage.
The Importance of Recognition
The People Development Award, which is part of the International Bulk Journal Awards, recognizes outstanding achievements in the maritime bulk sector. Established by the UK-based International Bulk Journal, a publication dedicated to the maritime dry bulk industry for over four decades, these awards spotlight individuals and organizations that have made notable contributions to the field. Long An International Port’s accomplishment serves as a testament to the dedication of its team and its ongoing efforts to enhance the cultural, social, and economic values of Vietnam.
Vo Quoc Huy, the chairman and CEO of Long An International Port, expressed pride in this achievement. He noted that the recognition positions Vietnamese enterprises on a global platform, reinforcing their commitment to excellence and innovation. Huy stated, “For us, people are our most valuable asset and the foundation of every success,” indicating that the port’s successes stem from a robust focus on employee development and satisfaction.
Building a People-Centered Workplace
Long An International Port has long prioritized creating a people-centered work environment, emphasizing that employee welfare is essential for organizational success. Through a comprehensive human resources strategy, the port offers extensive training programs aimed at skill enhancement and professional growth. This approach has not only improved operational efficiency but has also contributed to high service quality and overall port performance.
The organization fosters a culture of innovation and encourages collaboration among its workforce. Huy noted how investment in employee development is crucial for advancing Long An Port further and impacting the broader community positively.
Community and Collaborative Impact
Beyond its internal initiatives, Long An International Port has played a crucial role in fostering collaboration between local authorities, businesses, and educational institutions. This synergy helps to establish a sustainable logistics ecosystem in Tay Ninh, emphasizing the importance of community ties and mutual support.
Huy remarked, “The development of Long An International Port has created a positive ripple effect,” showcasing how the port acts as a catalyst for growth and development within the region. Its initiatives encourage local businesses to align with global best practices and adapt to the evolving logistics landscape.
Infrastructure and Future Aspirations
Spanning 1,935 hectares, the Long An International Port project is designed as a seamless integration of various services that support a thriving industrial ecosystem. The project encompasses a port zone, an industrial park, an industrial service area, and an urban development area, all integral to its future growth trajectory.
Currently, the port operates seven berths with a total length of 1,670 meters, capable of accommodating vessels up to 70,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage). Plans for expansion are underway, aiming to increase the number of berths to nine, extending the length to 2,368 meters and enabling the port to handle even larger vessels exceeding 100,000 DWT. This ambitious expansion is projected to achieve a throughput capacity of 3 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) or 10 million tons of general cargo in the near future.
A Learning Journey
In their quest for excellence, representatives from Long An International Port have actively engaged with global counterparts. Recently, a delegation visited Liverpool Port to study advanced management models used by the Peel Ports Group. Such initiatives underscore Long An Port’s commitment to continuous improvement and learning from established global leaders in the maritime industry.
This strategic approach not only enhances their operational capabilities but also propels the overall development of Vietnam’s logistics sector on an international scale, marking a transformative period for the nation’s economic framework.
