Vietnam and South Korea Seek Enhanced Collaboration in Distribution and Logistics

    ### A Thriving Partnership: The 6th Việt Nam-Korea Policy Dialogue on Distribution and Logistics

On a vibrant Thursday in Seoul, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) collaborated with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources (MOTIR) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) to host the 6th Việt Nam – Korea policy dialogue focused on distribution and logistics. This annual forum serves not just as an exchange of ideas but as a robust gateway for fostering deeper connections and partnerships within these critical sectors.

    ### Strengthening Business Connections

The primary aim of the dialogue was to share vital information and experiences related to policy-making. This sharing of knowledge supports the promotion of business connections in the distribution and logistics sectors, as highlighted by the MoIT’s Domestic Market Management and Development Department (DMMDD). By facilitating discussions, both nations hope to encourage a more collaborative atmosphere conducive to growth and innovation.

    ### Recognition of Việt Nam’s Business Potential

In his opening remarks, Choi Yeonwoo, director general for Middle Market Enterprise Policy in RoK, pointed to the dynamic business environment in Việt Nam. He underlined the importance of the recent decision by Hinte Jinro, Korea’s largest beverage company, to establish its first overseas production facility in Thái Bình, illustrating Việt Nam’s growing attractiveness as an investment destination. With abundant raw materials and improved legal frameworks for foreign trade and investment, Việt Nam is making strides in presenting itself as a reliable location for overseas businesses.

    ### Growth in the Domestic Market

Trần Hữu Linh, director of the DMMDD, emphasized the significance of the policy dialogue, regularly held since 2013. He noted that the discussions have increasingly become a vital tool for sharing knowledge, enhancing business relations, and expanding cooperation in distribution and logistics. The growth in Việt Nam’s domestic market is noteworthy, with total retail sales surpassing VNĐ5.77 quadrillion (approximately US$218.76 million) in the first ten months of 2025, reflecting a robust economic momentum.

    ### Adaptation to E-commerce and Digitalisation

As the e-commerce boom continues, Vietnamese logistics firms are rapidly adapting. Investments are being made in smart warehouses and modern logistics centers aimed at boosting supply chain efficiency. This shift toward advanced technologies necessitates updated regulations and policies that reflect international best practices, particularly those from RoK, which has a reputation for leading the region in distribution and logistics.

    ### Enhancing Supply Chain Collaboration

Nguyễn Thảo Hiền, deputy director of MoIT’s Department of Foreign Market Development, highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen supply chain connections. The focus is on promoting Vietnamese products, including agricultural goods and processed foods, within the Korean market. Initiatives like business connection programs, product exhibitions, and themed weeks of Vietnamese products in Korean supermarkets are proving to be effective strategies to enhance market visibility and expand share.

    ### Innovations in Supply Chain Management

The dialogue showcased various innovative frameworks, particularly from the Korean side, which presented insights on digital transformation and the application of artificial intelligence in supply chain management. Vietnam, in turn, provided updates on institutional reforms designed to facilitate smoother operations for distribution and logistics businesses. This exchange of knowledge is crucial for fostering a more adaptive and proactive industry landscape.

    ### Intellectual Property Considerations

An interesting highlight of the discussions was the focus on protecting intellectual property (IP) rights for Korean companies operating in Việt Nam. As cross-border trade flourishes, IP protection becomes an increasingly significant area of cooperation. Việt Nam reaffirmed its commitment to close collaboration with RoK in sharing data and information about potentially infringing goods, thereby aiding businesses in safeguarding their brands and maintaining a transparent investment environment.

    ### A Commitment to Sustainable Development

The policy dialogue reinforced a shared commitment between Việt Nam and RoK to enhance cooperation, promote trade, and improve business efficiency. By focusing on stronger connectivity, technology adoption, and policy enhancements, both nations are laying a solid groundwork for collaborative programs in the future. This partnership is poised to contribute significantly to the sustainable development of their respective distribution and logistics industries.
