The city’s modern transit landscape includes notable projects such as the Thu Thiem Tunnel, Mai Chi Tho Avenue, and Vo Van Kiet Street. A significant milestone in this journey was the inauguration of the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line (Metro Line No. 1) in early March 2025.
According to Nguyen Van Duoc, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, this metro line represents a transformative leap forward in the city’s public transportation system, marking the beginning of a new chapter in urban mobility. The metro line, which is expected to serve nearly 40,000 passengers daily, provides residents and tourists alike with more convenient travel options.

Cultural Connectivity
What sets the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line apart is its integration with cultural and historical sites. This line connects the bustling city center with eastern districts, enabling passengers to explore some of Ho Chi Minh City’s most significant attractions. For instance, Ben Thanh Station serves as an ideal starting point for visits to Ben Thanh Market, the City Opera House, and the Fine Arts Museum.

Future of Public Transport

In addition to the metro system, there are plans to upgrade the national railway network that runs through Ho Chi Minh City. The Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route will transition to a double track, allowing efficient cross-city operations while simplifying urban passenger transport.

By 2025, several critical infrastructure projects are set to launch, enhancing connections between Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding provinces within the southern economic key region. Among the 70 key projects eyed are expressways, bridge constructions, and road improvements aimed at unclogging congested urban thoroughfares.
Ring Road 3 will be particularly significant in connecting satellite urban areas to alleviate traffic centralization, while projects like the Ho Chi Minh City – Moc Bai expressway are designed to modernize trade routes with Cambodia.
