In a significant move to enhance its logistics network, the Long An International Port in Tay Ninh province, Vietnam, has entered into a cooperation agreement with SPG Bohaiwan Port and Bohwa Shipping Pte Ltd from China. This strategic partnership, established on July 30, 2025, aims to streamline maritime shipping operations between the two countries, facilitating an integrated logistics ecosystem that not only optimizes costs but also promotes a sustainable supply chain.
The “Two Ports, One Route” Initiative
The cornerstone of this cooperation is the introduction of a new shipping corridor aptly named “Two Ports, One Route.” This initiative seeks to directly link northern China with southern Vietnam, significantly enhancing cargo capacity and stimulating bilateral trade. With the global economy leaning more toward interconnected logistics, this corridor stands to enhance trade flow between the two nations.
Building an Integrated Logistics Ecosystem
The collaboration between Long An Port, SPG Bohaiwan Port, and Bohwa Shipping will lead to a well-rounded logistics ecosystem encompassing port operations, maritime transport, and a plethora of logistics services. This integrated approach aims to minimize business costs and bolster operational efficiency, ensuring that both countries benefit from mutual growth and a greener supply chain.
New Routes and Value-Added Services
Moreover, the partnership is not limiting itself to established routes. The three entities are exploring various shipping options, including containerized and dry bulk cargo. Additionally, they plan to augment the shipping experience with value-added services such as customs clearance, finance, and insurance. This comprehensive service chain will ensure that businesses have seamless access to the essential services needed to facilitate international trade.
Progress Since Launch
The signing ceremony highlighted the success already achieved since the launch of the two-way shipping route between Tay Ninh province and Weifang Port in Shandong province. Deputy General Director of SPG Bohaiwan Port, Cui Tiecheng, shared that the alliance has successfully operated 15 vessels, transporting over 370,000 tons of high-value cargo, including advanced industrial equipment and key raw materials.
A notable milestone occurred in April 2025 when a Vietnamese general cargo vessel transported goods from Liaoning, China, to Long An International Port. This landmark shipment underscored the direct maritime routes’ significance, advancing bilateral trade operations.
Future Prospects
The leaders of the participating entities have voiced optimism about the tremendous potential of this trilateral partnership. Cui emphasized that the current collaboration is designed to lay a robust foundation for future growth, enhancing economic and trade links between Vietnam and China.
SPG Bohaiwan Port intends to transform the Weifang Port-Long An Port route into a paradigm of successful economic collaboration. Their ambition is to bolster the export of strategic products from both nations to global markets, ensuring a competitive edge for local industries.
The Role of Tay Ninh Province
The Vice Chairman of the Tay Ninh provincial People’s Committee, Huynh Van Son, reinforced the significance of this partnership as a new chapter in the region’s development. He emphasized that the formation of a reliable maritime shipping route would accelerate trade promotion, reduce logistics costs, and ultimately enhance the competitiveness of local enterprises.
A Strategic Hub
Positioned strategically as the southern gateway of Vietnam, Long An International Port serves as a vital link between major economic zones such as Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. The port currently accommodates vessels of up to 70,000 DWT and offers well-developed logistics infrastructure. Its growth trajectory suggests it will emerge as a key transshipment hub, contributing to sustainable economic development not just for Tay Ninh province, but for Vietnam as a whole.
The cooperation agreement marks a new dawn for logistics and trade between Vietnam and China, setting the stage for fruitful collaborations and prosperity in the years to come.
